What a Bahamas VAT invoice must show
Inland Revenue's guidance says a VAT invoice must clearly show:
- the words "VAT Invoice";
- your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), name and address;
- an invoice (serial) number;
- your customer's TIN, name and address;
- the date of the invoice;
- the date of supply, if the supply was made or paid for before the invoice;
- the quantity, description and unit price of the goods, or the description and value of the service;
- which items are taxable (T) and which are zero-rated (Z);
- the rate and amount of any cash discount offered;
- the total before VAT;
- the VAT rate;
- the total VAT charged; and
- the total payable, including VAT.
An invoice missing any of these isn't a valid VAT invoice, so your customer can't use it to claim back the VAT. The preview flags anything missing. Prices on a VAT invoice are shown before VAT; VAT is worked out on the total at each rate and rounded to the cent.
Frequently asked questions
What must a VAT invoice show in The Bahamas?
Inland Revenue lists: the words "VAT Invoice"; your TIN, name and address; a serial invoice number; the customer's TIN, name and address; the invoice date (and the date of supply if earlier); the quantity, description and unit price of each item; whether each item is taxable (T) or zero-rated (Z); any cash discount offered; the total before VAT; the VAT rate; the VAT charged; and the total including VAT.
Can any business issue a VAT invoice?
No. Only a business registered for VAT can issue a VAT invoice or charge VAT. If you are not registered, untick "I am VAT-registered" and the generator makes a plain invoice with no VAT.
Should prices on a VAT invoice include VAT?
No. Prices on a VAT invoice are shown before VAT, with the VAT added in the totals. (Prices displayed to the public, and on VAT sales receipts, include VAT.)
Is my invoice saved anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser: nothing you type is sent to us or saved, and it is not put in the page address. Print it or save it as a PDF before you close the page, and keep a copy: the original goes to your customer.
How do I save it as a PDF?
Click "Print / save as PDF" and choose "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF") as the printer. Only the invoice is printed.
